Through mindfulness practice we create individual peace of mind, compassion for all beings, spiritual growth, and an ethical way of life based on Buddhist principles.
Through loving kindness meditation and the development of mindfulness, we strive to enlighten individuals as to the cause of suffering, the path leading to the cessation of suffering, and an understanding of the true nature of our existence.
Meditation is not just sitting and doing nothing. It is an exercise to quiet the mind, develop and transform ourselves to gain a healthy mind and body and to create a peaceful atmosphere around us.
Our mind is the master, every great or wicked idea arises in the mind. Through perfect mindfulness practice we learn to master our thoughts, transforming ourselves to be compassionate, loving, mindful and happy person. Developing equanimity makes day to day life not just bearable, but enjoyable every minute.
Peace and happiness resides within us, if only we know how to find it. We can master our minds. teachers, friends, and all others can show us the path to happiness, but it is our responsibility to work for it. Nobody can guarantee our own happiness. It’s a choice.
When we are relaxed and mindful we can dig deeper within us and be able to see the causes for our own unhappiness and suffering. Nobody created them but ourselves.
Suffering is a fact of life, but the cessation of suffering is what Buddhist wisdom is all about.
There is suffering, and the path for end of suffering is described, and peace guaranteed, in the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
“We already have perfect compassion, perfect wisdom, perfect joy.
We only need to settle our minds so they can arise from deep within us.”
“Do not dwell in the past.
Do not dream in the future.
Concentrate the mind on the present moment.
That would be the path to happiness.”
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”
‘As a mother loves her child
An only child,
With love that knows no limit,
Spreading wide,
Measureless and immense, –
And, for it, will sacrifice
Her very life, –
So let your love for all beings,
East and west, North and south,
Below, above –
Extending and extending wide,
Be immeasurable, exhaustless,
Unfathomable.
Chaste is such love,
Not clinging, – and so to fools
‘Tis incomprehensible;
But the seers understood,
And understanding, knew full well
Its golden worth’.
“Watch your thoughts: They become words.
Watch your words: They become action.
Watch your actions: They become habits.
Watch your habits: They become character.
Watch your character: For it becomes your destiny.”
